3 Hours Ruffle Top- Burda 08-2009

We’re wearing red shirts this month at work, I like to slap on my hat as well.  I worked last Friday, by the end of the day I knew I didn’t want to wear my only red shirt again the following day.  Instead of hastily washing a shirt I’m meh about at the best of times, I took home 1.15m of cotton/silk radiance.  Beautiful stuff, machine washable.

In a little over three hours, I transformed it into Burda 08-2009-117.  Great little top, very very comfortable and chic.  I used a conventional rolled hem on the edges of the ruffle rather than the recommended technique.  This created a fine, clean finish and sits well.  The only thing I would do differently in the future is to press the center seam open, rather than to one side.  I plan to make this many more times.

Without the ruffle, made in plain cotton voile, this would make a great “not-a-t-shirt.”  I’m reminded of Jean Ross.

I’m so sorry for neglecting you, fellow bloggers.  The truth is, I can’t stop reading leaked cables.  Mostly they seem to show the State Department working as it should, which is reassuring.   “Scientific Journalism” is the idea that the source for a newspaper article ought to be available to the reader, who can verify the journalistic integrity of the story.

The question of whether or not these files should be released or read is moot- they aren’t going away.  It’s happened. 

I’ll probably continue to be pre-occupied and sporadic, but promise I won’t blog here about anything else unrelated to sewing.  I just wanted to let you know why I seem a little quieter.
